Lions Bay had the view. The old doors just weren’t opening it up.

This post-and-beam home looks straight down Howe Sound toward the islands, so the doors on its deck had one job: get out of the way.

Where we started

The house already had everything you’d want: heavy timber beams, vaulted ceilings and a long covered deck. The original wood-framed doors opened onto that deck, but they weren’t opening up the view: thick frames and many dividers broke it up from inside.

Five systems, one clean look

We replaced them with five custom folding door systems in black aluminum: three at approximately 12' × 8' and two at approximately 6' × 8'. Same deck, same openings, but slim black frames that sit quietly against the timber and let the glass do the work.

Open the whole wall

Open, the panels fold neatly to the side and the deck becomes part of the room. From the kitchen to the living area, the line of sight runs straight out to the water.

The living room, closed to open

The living room wraps the corner of the house with a system on each wall. Closed, you get floor-to-ceiling glass and the full view from the sofa. Folded open, the corner of the room is open to the deck.

Dining and kitchen

In the open-plan dining and kitchen area, wide openings turn the vaulted timber-frame room into an indoor-outdoor space. The long dining table and the Sound share one sightline.

A door for everyday use

Every Lexario system includes a door you can use every day, so stepping out to the deck doesn't mean opening a whole wall. When you do want the whole wall open, the panels fold back and the opening is clear.

Even the bedroom

The same approach works upstairs: one wide opening from the bedroom brings the deck, the trees and the water into the morning.
